Beyonce welcomes Adorable Twins

American pop star Beyonce has given birth to twins, according to media in the US. Entertainment Weekly, Us Weekly and People magazines confirmed the news, but the date of birth and gender of the babies are not yet publicly known. Beyonce, who is married to rapper Jay-Z , announced her pregnancy in an Instagram photo in February – the most-liked post in history on the network. The couple already have a daughter, Blue Ivy, aged five. There has been no official confirmation of the birth from Beyonce and Jay-Z themselves. Other photos Beyonce posted after her pregnancy announcement showed her swimming under water, reclining on a bed of roses and sitting naked on a floral throne. In one, the ‘Lemonade’ singer stood naked, cradling her belly with one hand and a breast with the other, next to the sculpted head of an Egyptian ruler. NEWS: $15m in my accounts for medical bills, others, says Patience

Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, said she was using her $15m, which was frozen in four companies’ accounts, to settle medical bills while she was out of the country. She, therefore, urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Skye Bank to lift the restriction on the accounts. Patience said this in a letter with reference number GA/Abibo/00226/2016, written by her lawyers, Granville Abibo (SAN) and Co, which was addressed to the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu. Uber launched a groundbreaking driver-less car service Wednesday, jumping ahead of Detroit auto giants and Silicon Valley rivals with technology that could revolutionise transportation. In an ambitious experiment, a fleet of cars laden with lasers, cameras and other sensors — but with no one’s hands on the wheel — were to be deployed by the web-based ride service on the challenging roads of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, steering themselves to pick up regular Uber passengers who are used to being fetched by cars driven by humans. Four of the Ford Fusion hybrids with their ungainly rooftop load of technology will be deployed to a select customers on Wednesday, with the company showing at least a dozen more ready to put on the streets. SPORT: Rio Paralympics: Nigeria wins 7th gold medal

Flora Ugwunwa set a new world record in the women’s javelin – F54 event on Tuesday at the Rio Paralympics to give Nigeria its seventh gold medal. She recorded a throw of 20.25 metres after six attempts to win the gold medal and take Nigeria’s tally to seven gold, two silver and one bronze medals. On a day when Nigeria’s medals’ search was looking to be futile after some failure in the favourite hunting ground of power-lifting, the athletics event provided succour. Ugwunwa beat a field of nine to set new Paralympic and world records, while Tunisia’s Hania Aidi won the silver medal with a throw of 18.88m. South Africa’s Ntombizanele Situ completed the African sweep of the event’s medals by winning the bronze medal with a heave of 17.90m. No fewer than five people, including two children, have been confirmed dead and 13 others injured after three vehicles crashed on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos State. PUNCH Metro  learnt that the accident happened at about 6pm on Sunday around the UNILAG Waterfront end of the bridge. It involved a LAGBUS, a Rover Jeep and a Hilux pickup. An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority told our correspondent on the telephone that the accident was caused by the pickup. He explained that the driver of the truck drove at top speed and had a blowout before somersaulting. He said, “The truck driver was at top speed when he had a blowout and somersaulted. The truck crashed into the other vehicles, including the LAGBUS. In all, two vehicles somersaulted in the accident. For solving 17 Maths questions in one minute, a pupil of Scholars Universal Secondary School, Ota, Ogun State, Oluwatunmise Idowu, has set a new record in the annual  Cowbellpedia  Mathematics Television quiz. Idowu, 13, set the new record when she slugged it out in the Group B stage of the on-going competition with Ayomide Nafisat Abdulwaheed, a JSS 3 pupil of Reality High School, Osogbo, Osun State; Olajide Osoba of Atlantic Hall, Epe, Lagos State; Edidiong Okon of Topfaith International Secondary School, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State; Charles Adesoba of Petoa City College, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State; and Vanessa Ibol of NOWA Secondary School, New Kashi, Nassarawa State. With the new record, Idowu has beat the record of 15/60 seconds set last year by Ayodeji Akinkuowo of Adeyemi Demonstration College, Ondo State.                 Igbokwe and his wife A 32-year-old businessman, Ezekiel Igbokwe, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly killing his wife’s lover, Victor Olatundun. Igbokwe was said to have killed Olatundun after he caught him having sex with his wife at their matrimonial home. The suspect allegedly committed the offence at about 12am at Peace Lodge on Itura Street, Awa Ijebu, Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State. The suspect, who committed the crime on Wednesday, July 27, was arrested by the police the following day. Igbokwe and his 28-year-old wife were among the 23 suspects paraded at the Ogun State Police Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday, for various offences ranging from murder to illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. NEWS: Grandma, six others arrested for robbery

The Zone 2 Police Command, Lagos State, has arrested a gang of armed robbers which allegedly hijacked trucks at gunpoint in different parts of Ondo, Oyo, Ogun and Lagos states. PUNCH Metro  learnt that among the seven suspects was a 54-year-old grandmother, Bola Ajayi, who was apprehended in the Ilupeju area of Lagos State for allegedly receiving some of the stolen goods. Our correspondent gathered that the gang members were arrested by operatives attached to the zonal command on Monday, August 1. The other six suspects are Olanrewaju Gbadamosi, 33; Lukman Akinola, 33; Dele Rotimi, 37; Taiwo Olabode, 38; Uche Anthony, 27; and Taiwo Ayodele, 27. The police said the gang members were nabbed at about 10am while allegedly on a robbery operation at a hotel in Ore, Ondo State. Two locally-made guns and one dummy gun were recovered from them. NEWS: WAEC May/June 2016 Results Will Be Available very soon

The West African Examination Council will today release results of the May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) taken by over 1,555,000 candidates. The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has revealed that it would release the May/June 2015-2016 results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on Friday, August 5, 2016. The Head of National Office (HNO) of WAEC, Mr. Olutise I. Adenipekun, made the announcement during a media briefing at the council head office Yaba on Thursday. He said the examination which was taken by over 1.5 million candidates across the nation would brighten the chances of candidates in using the results for the on-going university admission exercise. The release of the results for school candidates’ exam would be the first by the HNO.
